Katie Lynch
Head Baker
Katie Lynch’s love of baking began while working at Heritage Treefruit (now Heritage Winery), where she was inspired to pursue an education in Baking and Pastry Arts at Johnson & Wales University. There, under the mentorship of Richard Miscovich, she discovered her passion for bread.
While studying for her Master’s in Teaching, Katie worked at Seven Stars Bakery, in Providence. Her career took her across the country and back — baking throughout Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley, and Northern California, where she interned at Artisan Bakers in Sonoma under the guidance of Mike Zakowski. Eventually, she returned to South Jersey to teach middle school before co-founding Machine Shop in 2017 with her friend and former coworker, Emily. It was there that she met Mighty Bread Co.’s Chris DiPiazza — and the two became fast “baker buds.”
A few months after leaving Machine Shop, Chris called to ask if she could help train a few employees for the summer. “Then I blinked,” Katie says, “and it’s been four years.”
Today, as Head Baker at Mighty Bread Co., Katie leads with curiosity, generosity, and deep respect for craft. “Community is the reason bread makes sense to me,” she says. “I have such a love for people, good food, and Philadelphia.”
